Maritime Law

What is Admiralty and Maritime Law?
Admiralty and maritime law is an ancient body of laws and principles developed to regulate the relations between shipowners, cargo owners, passengers and crews of vessels trading in international commerce.

What has Admiralty and Maritime Law become Today?
Today, admiralty and maritime law has become much broader than it started out. Now maritime lawyers become involved in everything from jet ski accidents to yacht fires, pleasure boating accidents and oil tanker collisions. In addition, with the advent of the intermodal transportation of cargo, maritime lawyers handle cargo losses at sea, as well as losses caused to shipments in trucks, in warehouses and air cargo losses.

Rating and Certification

Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory conducts extensive, confidential reviews of members of the legal community in a community, and assigns ratings to law firms. Sullivan and Company is proud to hold a rating of "AV", the highest accolade which Martindale-Hubbell awards. We have held this rating since April 9, 1997.

What Does It Mean that Rod Sullivan is "BOARD CERTIFIED"?
The Florida Bar tests and certifies attorneys who are specialists in particular fields of law. The testing and experience required are extensive and are designed to assure that certified attorneys possess the knowledge and experience to well represent their clients in these areas.

Fees

How Do You Determine Your Fees?
Our firm prefers to handle cases on a contingent fee, where our fees are based upon the amount of money we recover for our clients. However, we also offer hourly fees.

Litigation costs, like filing fees, subpoena and witness costs, expert witness fees and other out-of pocket expenses are the responsibility of the client, but the firm will frequently advance these costs and accept payment from the final recovery.
